June is National Microchipping Month: Keeping Pets Safe and Families Together
At Oakes, Edgeley, Ellendale Veterinary Service, we know your pets are more than just animals—they’re family. Whether it’s your curious cat, loyal dog, or adventurous farm pup, their safety is always a top priority. That’s why June—National Microchipping Month—is the perfect time to talk about one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect them: microchipping.
Why Microchipping Matters
Every year, thousands of pets go missing. Collars and tags can fall off, but a microchip is a permanent form of ID that helps reunite lost pets with the families who love them. It’s a small chip—about the size of a grain of rice—placed just under the skin, usually between the shoulder blades. It’s quick, safe, and almost painless for your pet.
Once registered, your contact information is linked to the chip. If your pet is found and scanned, you can be contacted right away.
The Benefits of Microchipping:
Permanent Identification that can’t be removed or lost.
Quick Reunions: Pets with microchips are far more likely to be returned home.
Peace of Mind: Knowing you’ve done everything you can to keep your furry friend safe.
Affordable & Easy: It's a fast procedure that can be done during a regular wellness visit or at the time of spay/neuter.
Already Microchipped? Make Sure It’s Registered!
Having a microchip is great, but it only works if your contact information is up to date. If you’ve moved, changed phone numbers, or adopted a chipped pet, now is a great time to check your chip registration. We’re happy to help you update the info if needed!
