Disasters don’t wait—and neither should your pet’s safety plan.

Whether it’s severe weather, wildfire smoke, flooding, or unexpected emergencies, having a simple, ready-to-go plan can make all the difference for your pet. As a veterinary team, we see how stressful these moments can be. Preparation helps protect not only your pet’s health, but also the bond you share.

🐶 What Every Pet Emergency Plan Should Include

1. A Grab-and-Go Pet Emergency Kit. Keep it in an easy-to-carry container near your door:

  • 3–7 days of food & bottled water

  • Medications (with instructions)

  • Leash, collar, or harness

  • Copy of medical records & vaccination history

  • Comfort items (favorite toy/blanket)

  • Waste bags or litter supplies

2. Identification That Stays With Them

  • Updated ID tags

  • Microchip information is current and registered

  • Recent photo of your pet (in case you’re separated)

3. Safe Transport Plan

  • Secure carriers for each pet

  • Practice loading your pet calmly

  • Know where your pet-friendly evacuation locations are

4. A Plan for When You’re Not Home

  • Trusted neighbor or family member who can help

  • Posted instructions for feeding, medications, and handling

🐾 A Simple Step That Matters

Even taking 15 minutes today to gather supplies or update your pet’s ID can make a meaningful difference in an emergency.

If you’re unsure what medications, records, or supplies your pet should have ready, our team is always here to help guide you.
