As we prepare to celebrate our nation's Independence Day with BBQs, fireworks, and family fun, let’s not forget our four-legged family members. While the 4th of July is a joyful occasion for us, it can be one of the most stressful and dangerous days for pets.
Here are some quick tips to help your pets stay safe, calm, and comfortable this holiday:
🧨 1. Fireworks and Loud Noises
Many dogs and cats are terrified of loud booms and crackles.
Vet Tip:
Keep pets indoors, in a quiet, secure area.
Use calming aids if needed – ask us about anxiety meds or calming treats.
Turn on a fan, music, or TV to help drown out the noise.
🍔 2. BBQ Hazards
Grilling brings irresistible smells, but not all food is safe for pets.
Avoid giving pets:
Bones (can splinter)
Corn cobs (can cause blockages)
Alcohol, onions, chocolate, grapes, and fatty meats
Stick to pet-safe treats or ask us about healthy options!
🏷️ 3. Update Their ID
More pets go missing on July 4th than on any other day of the year. Make sure your pet’s ID tags are current. Even better? Get your pet microchipped. We offer this quick, simple service, and it’s one of the best ways to ensure your pet finds their way home.
🌞 4. Beat the Heat
Outdoor parties can pose heat risks. Keep pets cool with:
Plenty of water
Shade
Limiting time outdoors during peak heat. Call us right away if your pet shows signs of overheating, like excessive panting, drooling, or weakness.
We’re Here for You
